Our Commitment to Reducing Plastic Waste
At Nest Diapers, we are committed to reducing plastic waste by using materials that are safe for our planet and our children. We’ve selected and developed materials that are low-impact, significantly reducing the buildup of plastic waste. While we are not 100% biodegradable, we continue to innovate and develop products that enhance breakdown in modern bioactive landfills, working toward a more sustainable future.
Biodegradable
Biodegradable materials are capable of undergoing biological anaerobic or aerobic degradation, resulting in the production of CO₂, H₂O, methane, biomass, and mineral salts—depending on environmental conditions. Microorganisms, naturally present in the environment and supported by organic waste, play a critical role in this process. Notably, Nest Diapers have been third-party tested in accordance with ASTM D5511, demonstrating that our specially treated plastics biodegrade at a significantly faster rate than conventional controls.
Compostable
Composting is the process of breaking down organic waste by microbial digestion to create compost. Compost has many beneficial uses including improving and fertilizing soil. To go through a composting process, organic waste requires the right level of heat, water, and oxygen. In a pile of organic waste, there are millions of tiny microbes that consume the waste, transforming the organic materials into compost. Nest Diapers have been tested under the test method ISO 14855-1-2012 to illustrate that a percentage of the product is compostable.
Warning: Please do not dispose of Nest Diapers in your home compost pile. Nest Diapers need to be properly commercially composted to degrade.
